Jordan Retro III - Midnight Release at Kong

This past Friday saw the re-release of a 1988 Air Jordan classic, the Retro 3 in Black/Cement. The original sneaker was made popular when Michael Jordan wore them during the '88 All Star Game, and their popularity remains as strong as ever. This particular colourway had been re-released twice before in 2001 and 2007 so if anyone had missed out before they were sure to get involved the third time around.

I myself fall into the above category, and was lucky enough to cop a pair of these stunning sneakers before most, courtesy of our friends Kong and their midnight release. Kong is an independent streetwear store based in Coventry, UK, and their midnight release was concocted to encourage a sense of fraternity, to get all the heads together to appreciate and discuss sneakers, and also to sell this highly sought after silhouette. I'd say it went down rather well.

This was going to be one of those rare occasions when all of the FH crew would be able to hit up an event together, so Flossy and I decided to cruise up from London on Thursday night to meet up with DR and NF. It was a chilled ride up, even though we somehow hit traffic despite how late it was. We saw the upside though, and started to chat music and share tunes whilst we rolled up. We listened to a mix of tunes from Joker, Curren$y, Rick Ross and Alexander Spit to name a few.

It was only at about 20 past midnight when we realised that we might actually be late, but thankfully the guys at Kong are dope and stayed open until we arrived. They didn't have much of a choice anyway, as a fair few of the guys that came in to cop the new Jordans stayed to have a chat.

I rocked up, and my size nines had been put to one side for me. I opened up the box to have a look inside and even though I knew I was going to cop, I tried them on anyway. These shoes look amazing, no doubt, but they feel amazing on, comfiest sneakers ever.

Once they were paid for I had the stupidest grin on my face. Jordans sell ridiculously fast. In fact, the entire stock that US Nike stores had was sold out within two hours of the release. Kong sold half their stock in 30 minutes.

Mine were the last pair to sell that night, and I believe that they've only got a size 6 and a 12 left.

Thanks again to Kong for putting it on, this is exactly why everyone should support their local streetwear store. Shout out to Funkyst Clothing for hooking me up with a dope snapback as well, that topped off my visit.

I'm always going to remember the night I copped my first pair of Jordans. Most dope.
