Mecca:83 - Life Sketches Vols I & II
Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 9:38PM
Manchester based producer Mecca:83 has been quietly building a reputation for some time now. His production has earnt him respect from numerous DJs and tastemakers, including Gilles Peterson, Simon Harrison, Kev Beadle and Dom Servini to name a few. FreeForm Records have just released Mecca's debut full length record in the form of Life Sketches Vols 1&2. The 15 track release explores the spaces between jazz-infused Hip Hop, live instrumentation and more electronic beat leanings and features guests like Grand Ear, Knwldg Highs, Spinnerty, Replife, Emanative and Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble.
We get a fair few requests from artists asking us to consider their releases for the blog, and as much as I appreciate the interest, sometimes the music isn't that great. This is not one of those times.
Mecca kindly provided me with the entire album to listen to and by 30 seconds of the first track, Good Morning, I was hooked. The chilled hip hop beats carried me through an ethereal electronic landscape. This album is the perfect skate/cruising soundtrack.
