Chico Brenes is Nicaragua's first pro skater, and he has done a lot to give back to the sport, especially back home. In 2008, he started Central Skate Shop in Managua - the first dedicated skate shop in the county. He's brought countless pros to the country to do demos on rickety obstacles inside of empty swimming pools, his dedication to skateboarding and the support from his country has seen the birth of two skateparks.
Having always dreamed of bringing the LRG Skate Team to his homeland, the dream finally came true after an initial tour stop in San Juan, Costa Rica. Cheeks hand-picked a crew that he knew was suitable for the rugged experience; Tom Asta, Billy Marks, Carlos Ribeiro, Rob Gonzalez and Tommy Sandoval. The crew skated the capital of Managua for a week, before venturing two hours outside of town over dirt roads on the last day of the trip, as they made their way to a skatepark in Juigalapa.
Despite the location and terrain, the turnout was amazing. Hundreds of kids had gathered in disbelief, as loads of pros had come all that way just to put on a demo for them. Seeing how Nicaraguan skate culture has grown, as well as Chico's positive impact on his country, left the entire team pining for more trips where the experience is 'rugged and real'.
