Entries in OBEY (16)
Of late it seems one can't turn a corner without seeing someone with an OBEY snapback perched on their head, so much so that I think I've got to the point where I'm kind of numb to it.
Spring's lookbook from OBEY is a refreshing step away from the look which many have probably come to associate with the brand and a move towards clean silhouettes and print free clobber.
Shephard Fairey is one of the most publicised supporters of the occupy Wall Street campaign, having been interviewed stateside on a number of occasions to show his support.
The latest print in his long running series pledges further support to the cause. The 18"x24" image is based on a photograph taken by Ted Soqui and features a masked protestor with Fairey's instantly recognisable style apparent as always.
A limited run of 450 prints are individually signed by both Shephard and the woman who is the subject of the piece.
Available this Thursday through OBEY with all proceeds going to the help the campaign.
Back in July of this year Shepard Fairey and his OBEY team headed over to Copenhagen to exhibit at the V1 Gallery. During the trip for this solo show elements were documented on film and they are currently on a staggered release on Vimeo.
Two episodes entitled 'Copenhagen Good' and 'Copenhagen Bad' chronicle the trip and outline both the positive and negative aspects of the journey of the OBEY team. Whilst in the city, Shepard and crew painted a huge mural piece on a 70ft wall adjacent to a space vacated by a building formally known as the 'Punk House'. Know as Ungdomshuset locally, it was used as a gathering place for local left wing youths in years gone by.
Having previously visited Margin six months ago we went into the 21st edition a little more prepared than on our last venture. Margin is an independent tradeshow run by Odyseus Constantine, that presents a mix of women's and menswear labels who are given the opportunity to show their wares to the world of buyers, press, multi-label agents and distributors.
This is the latest print to be released by Shepard Fairey as part of his 'Reagan and Friends' series.
The 18" x 24" screen print is as political as the name suggests and as always the run will be limited to 450 and be numbered and signed by Shepard.
The release is set for June 21st and will be made available on the day at a random time between 10am and 12pm.
