Penfield and Staple have come together once again to produce the third piece of outerwear in their ongoing collaborative project. For Winter '12, Staple have been given full control to add their creative twist to Penfields' popular Rockwell Jacket.
The build features a 60/40 cotton-nylon outer shell, insulated with an 80/20 ratio of down-feather ensuring a warm winter jacket with comfortable breathing space, completed with a shearling fur collar.
When it comes to producing a consistent line, Penfield always manage to deliver on every level. The brand are a favourite with us due to both their hospitable nature and the fashion in which they push themselves season in, season out.
Away from their core line, collaborations push the brand directionally and their Black Bear line takes all the technical advances we have become accustomed to and generates something which runs on premium. For the new season the fashion forward collection once again represents something which crosses over between smart styling and functional outerwear.
This seasons Penfield x Johnston’s of Elgin collaboration is close to home for Esquire. Their store has been based in Elgin since 1968 so they fully understand and respect the heritage of the local woollen mill.
Surviving recessions and serious flooding, Johnston’s has remained one of the worlds leading premium textile producers and crafts many types of wool based textiles for the world’s biggest luxury brands and fashion houses.
Nat Rendell, the stores founder, teamed up Manesh Mistry and Ben Allnutt of the Penfield design team to work on four colorways of the Kasson mountain parka.
As we ebb towards the colder months it's time Penfield broke out their finest wares and started dealing with the conditions which the brand have made their own. For spring summer we saw innovative new colorways of old favorites which have become the bread and butter of the Massachusetts based outer ware specialists, winter breaks out a more tonal selection of options which, as always, set them up as the kingpins of the great outdoors.
Season after season Penfield deliver without a shadow of a doubt and Spring/Summer '12 is no exception to this.
For the coming season the brand once again present us with an extensive selection of gents and ladies product which includes taking some familiar silhouettes and giving them a seasonal overhaul. What we see is the lookbook taken in a direction whereby the 'outdoor' silhouettes which we are accustomed to seeing from Penfield are transitioned into an everyday look. An example of this is how the familiar mountain parka is given a new lease of life using Pastel blues, Vivid Yellow and other such colorways.
The collection consists of a number of well executed jackets, Oxford shirts, shorts, tees, sweats, body warmers, trousers, five panels and some items of luggage.
When it comes to outerwear, it doesn't come much more enticing than Penfield. Once again for fall the brand have teamed up with Stussy to release a two option capsule collection in the form of the Landis Jacket and Outback Vest.
Both builds feature 100% cotton striped contrast lining, 80% down/20% feather fill and come in three colorways; black, grey and navy. The Landis Jacket features zip closure with toggle button overlap, snap button side pockets, inner velcro pockets, wrist zip pouch and leather accents.
The Outback Vest does not feature the toggle closure seen on the jacket but does include oversized front snap button pockets and chest zip pouch. Both builds are based on the popular BlackBear line produced by Penfield in previous seasons.
Penfield have hit us once again with a tidy make-up in the form of the Kasson Tweed Jacket for Fall '11.
